About Me

I am a Post-doctoral Investigator in Physical Oceanography Department at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution working with Dr. Susan Wijffels and Dr. Hyodae Seo. My research focuses on the exploration of the multiscale physics of the interaction between the ocean and the atmosphere.

Atmospheric and oceanic motions differ greatly in their temporal and spatial scales. For instance, a hurricane in the atmosphere can span over a thousand kilometers and travel at hundreds of kilometers per hour, whereas, oceanic eddies are typically a few hundred kilometers wide and move with speed of about a kilometer an hour. My work focuses on understanding how the large-scale and fast-moving atmospheric system interact with smaller and slower oceanic system through the exchange of momentum, heat and gases at the ocean surface.

To explore these complex dynamics, I run regional ocean and atmosphere models as well as analyze satellite and in-situ observations. I use coarse-graining method to disentangle the multiscale physics and investigate cross-scale interactions as well as the interplay between the atmospheric and oceanic components across various spatial and temporal scales. I am also keen in using data driven techniques to identify and understand the dominant inter-scale and inter-component interactions.
